Dr. Robert Shiller & the Skeptical Home Buyer

January 8th, 2014 – By Huntington Beach Realtor – Scot Campbell – Previews Property Specialist – Coldwell Banker Previews International

Dr. Robert Shiller is a Yale Economist and one of the most respected Real Estate Economists in the United States.  He co-developed the Case-Shiller Home Index which is among the most quoted real estate industry market statistics.

As a homeowner you most likely understand the long term benefit of owning real estate… but after a quick run-up in prices and a full percentage point jump in mortgage rates, there are many home buyers who are becoming concerned or skeptical that now is a good time to buy real estate.

In the below YouTube Video shot in August 2013, Mr. Shiller is interviewed by a reporter who does a good job of playing the “skeptic”.  There are several “on the one hand, and on the other hand” moments that you can expect from any economist, but I believe this interview really provides a good look at the concerns of home buyers and the potential risks of “waiting to sell” for home owners who want to lock in their equity by selling.

In short, while interest rates are low, it is both a good time to buy and a good time to sell a home.  Enjoy the video!
